"THEY'RE HERE!! STAR WARS ACTION FIGURES" COMIC BOOK AD

This is an old Star Wars action figures comic book advertisement. This particular one was found in Marvel Comics' What If? issue 9 ("What if the Avengers had fought evil in the 1950's?") from June 1978.

They did the diagonal Star Wars logo idea waaaay before the 30th Anniversary merchandise did!

Whenever I find one of these old ads, I like to check Han's name to see if they got it right. Well, once again they called him Hans Solo! Also, please notice Obi-Wan's disco collar and green lightsaber (or club or whatever it is). And what's with the blue shoes? I mean, who said, "Oh, let's give Ben some blue shoes; I always thought he'd look good with some blue sneakers"?

The ad says these toys are dressed in Star Wars costumes. By which they meant the figures were sculpted with outfits that sometimes looked like the one the character wore in the movie... and occasionally given a vinyl cape.

Usually Leia is referred to as Princess Leia, Princess Leia Organa, or plain 'ol Leia, but this ad calls her "Princess Organa". It's not incorrect, it's just odd. Check out Vader's green lightsaber.

The order form's silly. It kicks it off with "I'M WAITING BREATHLESSLY! PLEASE SEND ME:" and then you fill out whatever you want them to send you.

This was another Star Wars ad put together by the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon Art. They should be proud of all the funny ads they made!
